Mexico
The United Mexican States is an American country located in the southern part of North America. The third largest country in Latin America, it borders the United States of America to the north, Guatemala and Belize to the south, while to the west lies the Pacific Ocean and its eastern coast lies on the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.
Mexico has an estimated population of around 119 million people. Most have Spanish as their mother tongue, which the state recognizes as a national language along with 67 indigenous languages. Its capital and most populated city is Mexico City, with over 9 million people, or 20 million when considering the whole metropolitan area. Its official currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN), which is the 8th most traded currency worldwide.
Mexico has an export-oriented economy. It is the second largest in Latin America and the third largest economy in the Americas in purchasing parity terms, only after that of the United States and Brazil. The economy contains a mix of modern and old industries and farming systems. It is a large producer and exporter of corn, horticultural products, tropical fruits and vegetables. It also has an important automotive, manufacturing and cement industry. Mexico is the fifth largest oil producer in the world; a sector administered by the state. The main economic sectors are industrial manufacturing, agriculture and services, including tourism.
Mexico is the main tourist destination in Latin America and the ninth most visited in the world. This is due in large part to the 32 cultural or natural sites that are considered by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites. The financial and banking sector is dominated mostly by foreign companies or by mergers of Mexican and mainly Spanish and American foreign institutions.
